JAKARTA VELODROME
JAKARTA VELODROME
When the decision was taken by our client and the Indonesian authorities to create a permanent velodrome, rather than a temporary one solely for the Asian Games, we were still able to deliver the building on time and to the highest international cycling standards.
While the switch to a permanent facility meant no change to the super truss-based structure (which was designed to withstand seismic events and a once-in-50 years downpour), we worked as lead contractor with local teams and suppliers to deliver the ancillary elements that were needed, such as permanent dehumidification plant to minimise thermal expansion of the cycling track.
We also helped to develop a post-Games business plan for the centre, thinking outside the box to maximise its potential, both as a community sports facility, with a gym and futsal courts, and as a venue for future world-class cycling events.
What was originally intended as a temporary structure for a one-off event has now become a highly cost-effective centre of excellence for cycling in Asia.
